Dyslexia reading success

Brain principles for Global Learning
What has Dyslexia got to do with the History of the English Language, Phonics, Spelling reform, Reading difficulties and the Reading Wars?

This question and more are answered at length in my book Dyslexia reading success, But Ive summarised the section about the History of the English Language, Spelling reform,  Phonics, Reading difficulties and the Reading war, into a fun poetic rap called Dyslexia 26 Letters to Represent 44 sounds

Dyslexia, 26 letters to Represent 44 sounds

Boost – Its a major boost to the confidence of dyslexics to know that much of what we call dyslexia – difficulty with words is actually rooted in the spelling code – Let me explain

26 letters to represent 44 sounds

Some history I’ll bring you

About dyslexia to enlighten you, In a poetic rap form to move you – Pterodactyl, Pterodactyl, Pterodactyl

All kids know what a Pterodactyl is – But as Mark Twain once said I’ll bet there isn’t a man here who can spell the word Pterodactyl.”

Many dyslexics find  That in a single Word the same SOUND may be Represented by Different LETTERs

Many dyslexics find that there’s Many possible ways to spell and Pronounce most words

Again, What did Mark Twain say I’ll bet there isn’t a man here who can spell the word Pterodactyl, I fancy this silly alphabet, was invented by a dizzy drunken thief,”

Why because we have

Its about time, time to understand Dyslexia through the Lens of time,

Follow me on a journey through Time, early English was once upon a time more Phonetic in the beginning of time, much like other European languages in our modern time – But a combination of causes and effects, changed the phonic spelling of our language over time – Like the Natural Changes in pronunciation over time, The importation of foreign spelling rules – that changed the structure of the written language over time -Like the Norman French conquerors, of William the Conqueror’s time

The sneaky Dutch book publishers, lengthening words because they got paid by the line

Theres been many people and groups who have attempted to fix our spelling system,  As far back as 1550s, all the way through to the early 1920s

Minds such as Leading teachers William Bullokar, Noah Webster, the creator of the Webster Dictionary great states men and thought leader Benjamin Franklin who believed the English spelling code had some serious issues.

Franklin predicted that, in the long run, English spellings would become more irregular, losing all correspondence to the pronunciation and phonetic spelling of words leading to what he saw as difficulties in Reading and Spelling.

In the 1920s Andrew Carnegie and The Simplified Spelling board had one aim: The aim was to push forward spelling reforms fixing the issues in the spelling code.

Working with what we’ve got  orton and Gillingham organised and developed the first literacy programme for Dyslexics, and heavily influenced our modern-day perspective of dyslexia and the the book Dyslexia reading success builds on this work for Dyslexic Global thinkers, Strengths in Creating, Genus in problem solving, The holistic path for Learning and growing helping dyslexics to overcome the problem of 26 letters to represent 44 sounds

The History or back story behind dyslexia spelling reform and the reading war

The irregularities in our orthography or spelling system is an issue that sparked a War, The war was about reforming the spelling code, Because of the differculities it give some readers.

The fallout of this war would affect generations of English readers, and the problem with our spelling code would be hidden behind the word Dyslexia.

The Voices of Reason and Revolution

Below we have, The great American genius and statesman Benjamin Franklin – Father of American Scholarship and Education Noah Webster the creator of the Webster Dictionary, The great American author Mark Twain and Scottish-American industrialist, philanthropist and patron saint of libraries, Andrew Carnegie.

We preach phonics, phonics, phonics, and we attack the symptoms of a bad phonic code, will call it Dyslexia, and we say its in the heads our children.

We basically attack the symptoms of this inconsistent code which manifests itself in readers, particularly kids, new learners and people who rely on the phonetic method to read and spell, rather than memory or eye memory as it was called in the old Days.
